Casey Key Florida is a quiet 8 mile
long barrier island located approximately 15 miles south of Sarasota.
Many years ago, 150 to be exact, the island was known as "Chaise's
Key." Named after U.S. Army Captain John Charles Casey while
he was assigned to remove the Seminole Indians from this area.
During Casey's tenure, he assisted the U.S. government with the original coast survey resulting
his name placement on the map
attached to the inlet south of the island (Venice Inlet).
"Chaise's Key" was renamed "Treasure Island" during the 1920s
Florida land boom. After the boom turned bust, the name
reverted to Casey Key.
Residents relax on private beaches and enjoy a tropical
lifestyle. The
island offers a tranquil setting for a unique Florida life of
luxury. Most of the homes on Casey Key are single family
homes and will remain as such due to current zoning restrictions.
Also, the majority of the island is a conservation district.

Casey key real estate provides luxury and
waterfront homes, direct Gulf-front, bayfront and Gulf to bay
estates. Mature vegetation abounds on Casey Key with sweeping
oaks lining the secluded roadways.
Grandfathered under prior zoning, there are a few
beach motels -- the only commercialism on the island. Two
bridges provide access to the key.
